La Grave Snow Board Safari: Sunday 24th Jan Alpe D'Huez

Today, Per our guide drove us to Alpe D'Huez as La Grave has still not opened, due to dangerous snow conditions. Even though it has not snowed for more than a week, we still found good untracked snow....one run was superb.

Down from the Pic Blanc station, we clambered over the stairs to give us a good steep run, down to the entrance to the tunnel....once out of the tunnel, immediate snow conditions were not good, with a lot of rock, making the exit from the tunnel difficult. From there we traversed and took various routes across Breche down to the Lac, then back up on the chair.

The skiers with us are very good, able to handle all the conditions extremley well, but it was good to see all people suffering from burning legs. Sarah from New Zealand is now very close to Jes, having been taken out by him on the Mountain, not quite a leg over.

Conditions were brilliant blue sky with little wind, just ended up wearing one layer with a windstopper top.....and was still soaked through.

Overall Snow conditions on the piste, have to be described as poor, though snow cover is good in parts, there are a lot of rocks, and a number of people across all the groups put a number of gouges through to their bases, and one edge was taken out completely.

My new board, now has one gouge to the base, and Jes's has developed it's own braking system, with a number of gouges on the base!!

Later runs in the afternoon were good, with conditions at the top off piste surprisingly good / excellent, however the Sarenne run down was awful, with rocks all over the place.

Still don't know where we're going tomorrow, might be back to Alpe D'Huez......
